taylor hopkins
Taylor Hopkins is a Chicago-based painter whose work is rooted in the raw beauty of nature, the depth of the human spirit, and the vibrant energy of self-expression. Growing up on a farm in Virginia, Taylor developed a deep connection to animals, the outdoors, and the emotional textures of life — a connection that still fuels her creative process today.
Her paintings are bold, visceral explorations of what it means to fully feel — to embrace the hardships, joys, and contradictions of modern existence. Through layers of intense color, dynamic movement, and textured forms, Taylor expresses a deep reverence for nature, humanity, and the power of embracing one’s full emotional range. Her work often celebrates femininity in all its forms — fierce, tender, resilient — offering space for viewers to connect with their own complex inner worlds.
Now living in Chicago with her partner, two dogs, two cats, and a pet fish, Taylor draws inspiration from both the wildness of her upbringing and the pulse of city life. When she’s not painting, she finds joy biking, exploring the outdoors, and spending time with her little family.
Taylor’s art has been exhibited in local breweries, bars, and private studios across Chicago. She is passionate about creating custom abstract commissions, crafting pieces that reflect the unique energy of a client’s home and spirit.
For Taylor, studio time is sacred — a way to reconnect with herself, navigate the weight of the world, and create work that invites others to feel more fully, more freely, and more human.
more about the artist
Taylor grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountain area of Virginia, surrounded by farmland and wildlife.
From a young age Hopkins was inspired by nature and the way the natural world engages within itself. Starting off her artist journey from a young age of using poetry, charcoal, ink, pencil and photography. She enjoyed capturing the intimate textures of hay growing in a field or the way the form of a horse moves naturally through space, the way one of her childhood dogs looked peacefully over a pond.
Hopkins believes in using her life travels and experiences in creating pieces that may contain an uncomfortable depth. She encourages the viewer to take their time engaging with each piece and examine what emotional response may arise.
Hopkins relocated to Chicago from Richmond Virginia in 2021. She continues her artistic journey focusing on painting and illustrating.
